In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

In order to help both local and online students prepare properly and get the most out of the ongoing Islamic classes at Al-Masjid Al-Awwal in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (and other masjids), weekly and monthly quizzes are now available online. These quizzes are designed to help students review the most recent class in anticipation for the upcoming class. The basic idea is for about two days before the next weekly class in a course, a 5- or 10-question multiple-choice quiz on the material in the last class will become available at our online testing center. Also, larger quizzes for monthly courses are available for the entire week before the next class.

You will be able to review the recording of the last class, test your knowledge of its content, and receive a score and review your results, all before the start of the next class, in shaa’ Allaah.

All classes and quizzes are freely available to all, wal-hamdulillaah.

You will need to register for a free account here, by simply submitting your name and email, and creating a username and password for yourself. At the end of the initial registration process, there will be an error message which you can ignore. You will be contacted shortly after registering with information on how to take your first quiz. If you have any difficulty when registering, then please take a brief look at this easy 4-step PDF guide to registering.

UPDATE: Due to the high volume of registrations, your account will become active within 24 hours of your registration in shaa’ Allaah. No email notification will be sent. Simply sign in using the username and password you provided during registration.

As you know ***** ******** [name removed by admin] has a university online for Islamic knowledge with certificates and degrees for completion. My question is are you trying to establish the same with these test and quizzes? Or is this something entirely different, because we as Muslims need all the help to stay connected to the Scholars and their students here in the West.

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

The recordings are played from a website called Spreaker, but I do not believe you need any apps to play the audio files. Maybe try to close the ad that pops up and then you could play the audio? May Allaah give you success.

      • Assalaamu alaikum,

My mom still is unable to sign in to take the exams. I don’t suppose someone could delete all previous details so she could start anew?

        • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Just set up an account and use it. The inactive accounts that people register and never use are deleted anyway. Be sure to pay attention to the guide to registration if you are having any problems.

  23. As Salaamu Alaykum,

When registering and taking part in quizzes will bro Moosa mark them and give certificates? Or is it just to make sure you’re learning properly? Also if a person starts learning the lessons now (today) how will someone access the old quizzes? If you don’t register, will it affect your learning? Please let me know as I don’t wish to sign up to study the lessons. Jazakamullah khairan

    • Wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Multilpe-choice quizzes are scored immediately, with results available. Occasionally, there are essay answers which take up to 48 hours to score manually. Your records are kept for your own benefit and review purposes. We will soon announce an opportunity to enroll in an official course with transcripts and certificates, in shaa’ Allaah.

  24. Assalamu alaykum,
In Islam, polygamy is permitted. Is it however though encouraged up to the extent that one says “marrying more than one woman is better than marrying just one.”?
Like someone may say he doesn’t like marrying another woman because he doesn’t want to have to visit more family, doesn’t want that many children, doesn’t want the burden of possibly bringing up more children in a bad way etc. Would this be seen as hating that which Allah has revealed? [comment abridged by admin]

    • Wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Many scholars say that having more than one wife is better, and others say that having only one is more preferrable. What seems to be correct is that plural marriages are better for men who can afford it when there are women who need to be maintained. Like after wars when many of the men have lost their lives and there are many widows, or any other time when there are women looking to get married and they do not find responsible men to take care of them. On an individual level, it is a permissible choice. When things are permissible (which includes recommended, disliked, and openly permissible matters), no blame is associated with the person who chooses one of the permissible options. So it is permissible to have one wife, and it is permissible to have a second wife (up to four). Whichever option works best for you in your situation is fine. Choosing one wife does not mean you hate what Allaah has legislated (polygyny). Hating what Allaah legislated in this case is like believing that it is unfair or oppressive for a man to be able to marry more than one wife while women can only marry one husband. Subhaan Allaah, some people today who ascribe to Islaam actually say that. This is a statement of disbelief that takes someone outside of Islaam. To believe that Allaah’s Legislation is unjust or inferior to the disbelievers’ standards is disbelief. How could the creation produce finer laws than the all-Knowing Creator?! And Allaah knows best.

  25. As Salaamu Alaykum,

Do I have to wait 24 hours to log into to access the quizzes? I’ve attempted to log in several times. However, I recently created the account (about a few hours ago)

    • Wa ‘alaykis-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Your registration is complete. You may login using the first username and password you created, in shaa’ Allaah. May Allaah give you success.

  26. As salamu alaikum Barak Allahu feek I hope your Ramadan is going well bi ithnillah my question is there a link for the Arabic classes, I only see the test in the registration area.

  27. As salaamu alaikum,

Jazakhallah khair for your very quick response to my query on another post.

Please could you tell me whether class 1436.04.11 is the first lesson of the 40 Hadith series?

Is there any written transcript for these classes?

Would this be a correct English translation of the main text?

I would like to start with the 40 Hadith series but is there some way these recorded lessons should be used in a certain order to form a structured course of study? I am very keen to find some programme of Islamic studies and also Quranic Arabic (from the very basics) that only uses authentic texts and are internet based to study at any time – can you recommend any websites for this? Free or fee paying are acceptable as long as I can work at my own pace.

Jazakhallah khair for all your hard work

  28. Assalaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathu,

My account has not been activated yet. Could you please check and let me know. I create my account couple weeks ago.

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Your account was approved shortly after you registered. You may log in with the username and password you registered with. I don’t think there are any quizzes available at the moment though.

  29. as-Salaamu alaykum,

Could you please activate my account? JazaakumuLlaahu khayra.
I tried to log in but I get the following message: ATTENTION: wrong user / password

Or is there another way for me to access the quizzes about 40 Nawawi? Because I want to use them to test my understanding of the classes.

    May Allaah reward you.

  35. Assalaam Walaikum,

Brother I have not seen any new recordings for the classes posted since last year (example: the fiqh course and explaination of creed). Will you be continuing these courses ? It is very hard to find authentic knowledge online and I appreciate your efforts. Just looking for some feedbackwith it. Jazakallhu Khairan

    • wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah, The Fiqh course that was based on “al-Fiqh al-Muyassar” has been discontinued and replaced by ‘Umdat al-Ahkaam. The Explanation of the Creed has been interrupted, and we have yet to upload some recordings that were already done. We’ll get back to that soon, in shaa’ Allaah. May Allaah bless you for your vigilance and increase you in good.

  36. Thank you brother. Will recordings of ‘Umdat al-Ahkaam be uploaded ? I am not seeing it as a course on your website. Shukran!

  37. As-salaamu ‘alaykum. When I firstly came to the Da’wah years ago, the study plan and quizzes you made for The Prophet’s Prayer Described completely revolutionized my approach to reading and studying the Deen. May Allah reward you. I had intended to contact you and encourage you to do more of the same, but I was pleased to find out that you already are. I hope that these lessons will kindle within the participants the same zeal and care of the approach to learning as those old lessons did for me. Barakallahu feeka.

  38. As-salaamu ‘alaykum,

I am aiming to listen to more audios from 1mm on spreaker by you ustaadth Moosa Richardson. I would benefit very much from the quizzes.

Is it possible to bring these back? Such as for your series on Usool Uth-Thalaatha?

    JazakaAllahu Khayran
