Abul-Muthaffir as-Sam\u2019aanee<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(d.489, may Allah have Mercy on him) said:<\/p>\n

Whoever does not know the foundations of the meanings of\u00a0Fiqh\u00a0<\/span>(i.e.\u00a0Usool al-Fiqh<\/span>) shall not be saved from occasions of\u00a0taqleed\u00a0<\/span>(bling following) and being considered among the [unlearned] common folk\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(d.728, may Allah have Mercy on him) stated:<\/p>\n

A person must have usool kulliyyaat<\/span>\u00a0(broadly applicable maxims) from which he derives rulings on\u00a0juz\u2019iyyaat<\/span> (individual cases), so that he can speak with knowledge and balance, and so he knows about how those individual cases are to be assessed. Otherwise, he would remain in lies and ignorance regarding those individual cases, and in ignorance and oppression regarding the maxims. Such [ignorance] produces a serious level of corruption…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This book, Risaalah Lateefah Jaami\u2019ah<\/span><\/strong><\/em>, is an excellent starting point for studying the science of\u00a0Usool al-Fiqh<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(Islamic Legal Maxims).\u00a0Shaykh \u2018Abdur-Razzaaq ibn \u2018Abdil-Muhsin al-Badr<\/span>\u00a0(may Allah preserve him and his father) described it as:\u00a0\u201cOne of the best books one could start with in the field of Usool al-Fiqh.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>He went on to explain this in detail, listing a number of special features of this book which make it especially befitting for study:<\/p>\n
