In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…<\/em><\/p>\n

The great scholar, Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan<\/strong> (may Allaah preserve him), was asked:<\/p>\n

What is “ta’aalum”?\u00a0And what is your advice to the youth\u00a0who face trials due to people engaged in ta’aalum?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He replied:<\/div>\n

Ta’aalum is to feign knowledge. Feigning knowledge. It is when a person claims knowledge, while he is not knowledgeable in reality. He has not\u00a0taken any knowledge directly\u00a0from the scholars. Rather, he\u00a0merely learned some things\u00a0from books, solely from reading. He lacks sound fundamentals to build upon; he just reads things in books and proceeds\u00a0according to his own understanding,\u00a0likely\u00a0erring\u00a0more than being correct.\u00a0This is a person of ta’aalum. He is\u00a0a danger to himself (firstly)\u00a0and to everyone (at large), since he plays games with the religion of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.<\/p>\n

If a man came out and said to the people, “I’m a physician, I’m a\u00a0doctor, and I treat (the sick),” while he\u00a0does not have any medical qualifications, no medical qualifications at all, would he be allowed to treat (the sick)? Would he be allowed to perform surgeries, opening patients up and performing heart operations? He would not be allowed to do that, because it\u00a0would be harmful. So how can a person of\u00a0ta’aalum be allowed to play with the religion?! Playing with the religion is\u00a0more serious\u00a0than meddling with people’s bodies!<\/p>\n

So they\u00a0must fear Allah and not speak about Allah without knowledge, for Allah has made speaking about Him without knowledge worse than shirk (polytheism)!<\/p>\n

\nSay, “My Lord has only forbidden immoralities,\u00a0what is apparent of them and what is concealed,\u00a0sin,\u00a0oppression without right,\u00a0that you associate partners with Allaah\u00a0which\u00a0He has sent down no authority for, and that you say about Allaah\u00a0what you do not have knowledge of.”<\/strong> (Al A’raaf 7:33)<\/p>\n

Such people must fear Allaah and get an education\u00a0before speaking.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
