In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful…<\/em><\/p>\n

Senior Muslim scholar, Shaykh Saalih ibn Fowzaan al-Fowzaan<\/strong> (may Allaah preserve him) was asked:<\/p>\n

\n

There is a famous preacher whose work reaches all over the world. He says that Allaah is not<\/strong> able to do all things. He also says that he knows of\u00a0a thousand things which Allaah, the Most High, cannot<\/strong> do. Is this (person considered) a caller at the gates of Hell? Must we warn against him?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The shaykh replied:<\/p>\n

This (person) is a mulhid<\/em> (deviant) [1], the one who says these things is a mulhid<\/em> (deviant) regarding the Names and Attributes of Allaah.<\/p>\n

\n“And to Allaah belong the most beautiful Names, so call upon Him using them. Abandon those who commit ilhaad <\/em><\/strong>(deviate) [1] regarding His Names. They shall be recompensed for what they do.” <\/strong>[2]<\/p>\n

\n“Verily, those who commit ilhaad regarding our aayaat (verses, signs) are not hidden from Us. Is the one cast into the Fire better than one who attains safety on the Day of Judgment?” <\/strong>[3]<\/p>\n

Someone says that Allaah is not able to do all things…\u00a0Exalted be Allaah! Allaah says:<\/p>\n

\u0648\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0643\u0644 \u0634\u064a\u0621 \u0642\u062f\u064a\u0631<\/strong>
\n“And Allaah is able to do all things”<\/strong> [4]<\/p>\n

How\u00a0many Verses\u00a0have [what means]:\u00a0“And Allaah is able to do all things,”<\/strong> or, “Verily Allaah is able to do all things”<\/strong>?\u00a0<\/strong>How many Verses!? [5]<\/p>\n

Allaah\u00a0has not mentioned any limit to\u00a0His Divine Ability,\u00a0(He has)\u00a0unrestricted Capability, over all things<\/strong><\/em>. (He is) able to do all things<\/strong>. He is Knowledgeable of\u00a0all things<\/strong>. He, the Exalted and Most High, has not mentioned any limits.<\/p>\n

And you come and limit this?! Would you\u00a0say, “No, there are some things that Allaah does not know, and I know them!”<\/em> [6]<\/p>\n

This is a kind of ilhaad<\/em> [1] regarding the Names and Attributes\u00a0of Allaah.<\/p>\n

It is not that every preacher is upon truth. Listen to the speech of the Messenger:<\/p>\n

[1] A mulhid<\/em> is someone who commits ilhaad<\/em> regarding the Names and Attributes of Allaah, by either rejecting them outright, or by\u00a0twisting their meanings in ways not befitting to Allaah. Ilhaad<\/em> also includes naming Allaah with names that He has not used for Himself.\u00a0See Exemplary Principles<\/em> of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (p.49-50).\u00a0The word “mulhid”<\/em> could also\u00a0be translated as “disbeliever” or “rejecter”\u00a0in this passage, and Allaah knows best.<\/p>\n

[6] Notice the shaykh mentions knowledge<\/strong> in this example. He likely intended to show how clearly unacceptable it would be to claim that Allaah does not know everything, and someone claims to know some things Allaah does not know! So similarly, any Attribute of Allaah that He has affirmed for Himself, like\u00a0Knowledge, Ability, or anything else,\u00a0may not be restricted, limited, or specified by rationale or philosophy. And Allaah knows best.<\/p>\n
