this a Hadeeth: &#8220;Whoever Learns a People&#8217;s Language Shall be Safe from their Plots&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>In the Name of Allaah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have recently\u00a0heard someone quoting the following statement as a hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace):<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u0645\u0646 \u062a\u0639\u0644\u0645 \u0644\u063a\u0629 \u0642\u0648\u0645 \u0623\u0645\u0646 \u0645\u0643\u0631\u0647\u0645<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Whoever learns a people&#8217;s language shall be safe from their plots&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like to offer\u00a0some important points regarding this so-called &#8220;hadeeth&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[1] It is\u00a0NOT a hadeeth, rather it is considered<em> &#8220;laa asla lahu&#8221;<\/em> (baseless).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>After careful research, I could not find any basis for this statement as a hadeeth, nor as a statement\u00a0of a Companion or early scholar.\u00a0 After exhausting the usual source books of hadeeth, I searched in the books of <em>&#8220;Ahaadeeth Mushtaharah&#8221;<\/em> which discuss claimed hadeeths that are commonly quoted by people, and\u00a0in the books of <em>&#8220;Mowdhoo&#8217;aat&#8221;<\/em> (fabricated and baseless hadeeths),\u00a0and I again did not find a trace.<\/p>\n<p>The only reference to it\u00a0I could find\u00a0from a trusted scholar\u00a0was something mentioned by <strong>Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee al-Waadi&#8217;ee<\/strong> (may Allaah have Mercy on him) who<!--more--> listed it among some fabricated and baseless hadeeths, and said, <em>&#8220;Researchers have tried to find it\u00a0and they have not found any basis for it.&#8221;<\/em> (<em>al-Muqtarih<\/em>, p.11)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[2] Lying on the Messenger is a huge major sin.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) warned his nation against lying on him by attributing things to him that he never said.\u00a0 The severe threat of a confirmed seat in the Hellfire faces those who ascribe\u00a0things to him he never said.\u00a0 In the <em>mutawaatir<\/em> (overwhelmingly authentic)\u00a0hadeeth narrated by as many as 80 Companions or more, the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) said:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u0645\u0646 \u0643\u0630\u0628 \u0639\u0644\u064a \u0645\u062a\u0639\u0645\u062f\u064b\u0627 \u0641\u0644\u064a\u062a\u0628\u0648\u0623 \u0645\u0642\u0639\u062f\u0647 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0627\u0631<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Whoever lies on me intentionally, let him take his seat in the Hellfire.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The grave crime of attributing things to the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) must be taken seriously.\u00a0 Something understood to be from the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) is taken as part of the Religion of Islaam\u00a0by all Muslims.\u00a0 Thus, attributing things to him he did not say is something that changes the perfect Religion of Allaah, and it is absolutely impermissible and unacceptable in any situation, no matter who does it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Think about how the Christians and other nations before us\u00a0allowed their religions to change by not tenaciously observing this essential stance.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[3] &#8220;But I didn&#8217;t lie on him intentionally&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While this may be true,\u00a0someone who has narrated this hadeeth to people\u00a0needs to ask himself how it became so easy for him to pass on narrations about the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) without careful verification.\u00a0 With a threat so severe, the Companions themselves used to admonish each other regularly\u00a0about narrating hadeeths without being 100% sure of their precise accuracy!<\/p>\n<p>Does a Muslim\u00a0carelessly pass on everything he hears attributed to the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace), or does he refrain from narrating except what he is absolutely sure about?<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> If you are someone who has helped to spread this false hadeeth in any way, then do your best to repent to Allaah earnestly, and try to correct your wrong by sending this article to everyone you spread the false hadeeth to.\u00a0 May Allaah accept your repentance and give you success.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>[4] &#8220;But scholars say we can use weak hadeeths sometimes&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some scholars allow the mention of slightly weak (<em>dha&#8217;eef<\/em>) narrations under some conditions, however, we need to be perfectly clear: <em><strong>No scholar EVER allowed the mention\u00a0of fabricated or baseless narrations (like this one), except to warn against them.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[5] &#8220;But the meaning is correct&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Firstly, if the meaning were correct, it doesn&#8217;t become a hadeeth because its meaning is correct.\u00a0 Bakkah.net has beneficial articles, but we cannot say the Messenger of Allaah said that (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace).<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, while the meaning may have some correctness\u00a0to it, I would ask you to reflect over this question: <strong><em>&#8220;Has the dedication of many Arab lands to the English language protected them from the plots of the people of that language, or has something else happened&#8230;?&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[6] &#8220;So\u00a0we\u00a0are not allowed to learn a foreign language now?!&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Identifying this baseless narration for what it is, warning the Muslims from it, and even pointing out flaws in\u00a0its meaning is not meant to be a warning against learning a foreign language for an intended\u00a0justifiable benefit, like to convey Islam to the people of that language, or to learn something of\u00a0scientific\u00a0or academic benefits when they\u00a0possess them.\u00a0 In\u00a0such\u00a0cases, I know of no differing\u00a0over the permissibility of learning a foreign language.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[7] &#8220;Learning foreign languages causes hypocrisy&#8230;&#8221; (Hadeeth?)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that another false hadeeth is commonly quoted on this topic.\u00a0 Al-Haakim reported in his <em>Mustadrak<\/em> (4\/87) that Ibn &#8216;Umar allegedly narrated from the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace):<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0\u0645\u0646 \u0623\u062d\u0633\u0646 \u0645\u0646\u0643\u0645 \u0623\u0646 \u064a\u062a\u0643\u0644\u0645 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a\u0629 \u0641\u0644\u0627 \u064a\u062a\u0643\u0644\u0645\u0646 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0641\u0627\u0631\u0633\u064a\u0629\u060c \u0641\u0625\u0646\u0647 \u064a\u0648\u0631\u062b \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0641\u0627\u0642<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Those of you who speak Arabic\u00a0proficiently must not speak in Persian, since it causes hypocrisy.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This hadeeth has been idenitified as <em>mowdhoo&#8217;<\/em> (fabricated), since the early criticism of ath-Thahabee for al-Haakim&#8217;s book when he identified &#8216;Umar ibn Haaroon the liar in the chain, to the\u00a0later\u00a0scholars of hadeeth like Al-Albaanee in <em>Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth
