In the Name of Allaah…<\/em><\/p>\n

Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan<\/strong> (may Allaah preserve him) said:<\/p>\n

From the aspects of the pre-Islaamic period of ignorance (jaahiliyyah<\/em>) that the Messenger\u00a0of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) opposed them in was their\u00a0attempt to draw near to Allaah\u00a0in worship by whistling and clapping.\u00a0 Allaah, the Most High, has said:<\/p>\n

( \u0648\u0645\u0627 \u0643\u0627\u0646 \u0635\u0644\u0627\u062a\u0647\u0645 \u0639\u0646\u062f \u0627\u0644\u0628\u064a\u062a \u0625\u0644\u0627 \u0645\u0643\u0627\u0621 \u0648\u062a\u0635\u062f\u064a\u0629 )<\/strong><\/h2>\n

( Their prayer at the House (the Ka’bah) was but\u00a0whistling and clapping ) <\/strong>[8:35]<\/p>\n

This means that the polytheists would only try to draw near to Allaah at the prestigious Ka’bah by whistling and\u00a0clapping…<\/p>\n

…They would\u00a0do this at the House (the Ka’bah), calling it “prayer”, thinking to draw near to Allaah, the Exalted and Most High.\u00a0 It was just one of the ways the\u00a0devils of mankind and Jinn\u00a0had beautified for them.<\/p>\n

We know this because worship is something only done according to\u00a0what Allaah, the Exalted and Most High, has legislated, and thus it is towqeefiyyah<\/em> (restricted).\u00a0 People may not introduce any idea they personally like, nor anything they learned from someone else, which was not legislated by Allaah to be an act of worship\u00a0done for Him, having no basis in the Islaamic legislation.<\/p>\n

From this (Verse) we can derive the impermissibility of two things – whistling and clapping, even if a person did not intend\u00a0them\u00a0to be acts of worship.\u00a0 That is because it is an imitation of the polytheists\u00a0(in their specific acts of worship).<\/p>\n

Clapping\u00a0has only been\u00a0made permissible by the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) for women, specifically when there is a real need, like alerting the leader\u00a0(of congregational prayer)\u00a0about something he has forgotten in the prayer, since her\u00a0voice may cause temptation among\u00a0males\u00a0(not from her family).<\/p>\n

It is not permissible for a man to imitate the disbelievers, nor may he\u00a0imitate the women by clapping.\u00a0\u00a0Since clapping\u00a0is not even\u00a0permissible (for men)\u00a0when needed to alert the\u00a0imaam<\/em> about\u00a0something he has forgotten in the prayer – he instead\u00a0says “subhaan Allaah<\/em>”\u00a0– then it should be understood that it is even more clearly\u00a0impermissible to clap without any real\u00a0need.<\/p>\n

In this is a clear refutation of those men who clap (applaud) at parties, imitating\u00a0the disbelievers.<\/p>\n
