{"id":2504,"date":"2013-01-07T21:08:23","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T21:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bakkah.net\/en\/?p=2504"},"modified":"2013-05-08T15:15:38","modified_gmt":"2013-05-08T15:15:38","slug":"shaykh-al-albaanee-lights-a-soofee-magician-on-fire-really","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bakkah.net\/en\/shaykh-al-albaanee-lights-a-soofee-magician-on-fire-really.htm","title":{"rendered":"Shaykh Al-Albaanee Lights a Soofee Magician on Fire &#8211; Really!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Ever Merciful&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The great scholar, <strong>Shaykh Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Albaanee<\/strong> (d.1420) &#8211; may Allaah have Mercy on him &#8211; tells <strong>an amazing story<\/strong> about his encounter with a soofee performing acts of illusionary magic.\u00a0 This story comes after his detailed academic discussion of the narration of Jundub (may Allaah be pleased with him) and its chains of transmission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To summarize the story:<\/strong> A governer in Iraq during the the Caliphate of &#8216;Uthmaan ibn &#8216;Affaan was being entertained by a magician<!--more--> performing various acts of illusionary magic, like pretending to cut someone&#8217;s head off and then returning it to its place.\u00a0 Jundub, aware of the ruling on magicians, steps up and kills the magician, saying:<em> &#8220;Let him bring himself back to life\u00a0if he was truthful!&#8221;<\/em> and reciting the Quranic verse:<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">( \u0623\u0641\u062a\u0623\u062a\u0648\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u062d\u0631 \u0648\u0623\u0646\u062a\u0645 \u062a\u0628\u0635\u0631\u0648\u0646 )<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>( Would you then come to attend <\/strong>(a display of)<strong> magic,\u00a0whilst you have sight?! )<\/strong> [21:3]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Shaykh Al-Albaanee<\/strong> (may Allaah have\u00a0Mercy on him)\u00a0then commented:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Similar to this magician who was put to death are those <em>&#8220;Turuqiyyah&#8221;<\/em> (followers of tariqahs, or soofee paths) who pretend to be among the servants closest to Allaah, by stabbing themselves with swords and skewers.\u00a0 Some of this\u00a0is magic and illusion with no\u00a0reality to it, while\u00a0some of it is (based on) practice and training which anyone could do, believer or disbeliever, so long as he trained himself for it and had firm resolve.\u00a0 Similar to that is when they put fire to their mouths and hands\u00a0or\u00a0go inside\u00a0of ovens (without burning).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I had an encounter with someone who was pretending to be one\u00a0of them in Halab (a city in Syria), stabbing himself with skewers and grabbing hot coals in his hand.\u00a0 So I advised him and explained the reality (of the ruling) to him, and <strong>even threatened him with fire<\/strong> if he would not stop the baseless claims (of piety based on his acts)!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When he refused to stop, I went up to him with (real)\u00a0fire and threatened to (really) set his turban on fire!\u00a0 When\u00a0he insisted further\u00a0(on continuing his tricks), <strong>I set it <\/strong>(his turban)<strong> on fire, while he stared at me!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Shortly afterwards, I put out the fire, afraid that he would burn from under it (the turban) in sheer arrogance!\u00a0 My thoughts were that if Jundub (may Allaah be pleased with him) would have seen them, he would would have killed them with his sword, as he did with that magician (in the narrations).<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">( \u0648\u0644\u0639\u0630\u0627\u0628 \u0627\u0644\u0622\u062e\u0631\u0629 \u0623\u0634\u062f \u0648\u0623\u0628\u0642\u0649 )<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>( And verily the Punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and everlasting! )<\/strong> [20:127]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">[End of Shaykh Al-Albaanee&#8217;s words]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Source:<\/strong> <em>Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth ad-Dha&#8217;eefah<\/em> (3\/642-643).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:<\/strong> Please note that punishments for crimes\u00a0in Islaam are applied through the judicial\u00a0process of the Muslim state,\u00a0not by individuals, no matter how heinous the crime or how clearly guilty the offender is.\u00a0Jundub (may Allaah be pleased with him)\u00a0in the story referred to previously was actually arrested by the authorities\u00a0and jailed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The lesson we should take from the story is related to how\u00a0severely\u00a0one of Islaam&#8217;s finest and most upstanding scholars of\u00a0recent times\u00a0hated illusionary magic &#8211;\u00a0resorting to these measures,\u00a0trying his level best\u00a0to prevent the spread of such an abhorrent evil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This story should also serve as a shocking wake-up call to all\u00a0those\u00a0making claims or insinuating that the scholars of Islaam, the likes of Shaykh Al-Albaanee, are tolerant of illusionary magic!
