{"id":2447,"date":"2012-11-02T22:40:32","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T22:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bakkah.net\/en\/?p=2447"},"modified":"2013-08-25T04:20:32","modified_gmt":"2013-08-25T04:20:32","slug":"the-permanent-committee-of-scholars-on-the-kufr-apostasy-of-illusionary-magicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bakkah.net\/en\/the-permanent-committee-of-scholars-on-the-kufr-apostasy-of-illusionary-magicians.htm","title":{"rendered":"The Permanent Committee of Scholars on the Kufr (Apostasy) of Illusionary Magicians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Ever-Merciful&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Permanent Committee of Scholars<\/strong> in Saudi Arabia discussed the issue of <em>sihr<\/em> (magic) in an official published verdict (<em>fatwaa<\/em>) signed by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shaykh &#8216;Abdullaah ibn Manee&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Shaykh &#8216;Abdullaah ibn Ghudayyaan<\/li>\n<li>Shaykh &#8216;Abdur-Razzaaq &#8216;Afeefee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>May Allaah have Mercy on all of them.\u00a0 In this <em>fatwaa<\/em>, they explained the meaning of illusionary magic and its ruling, saying:<\/p>\n<p>The word <em>sihr<\/em> (magic) also refers to illusions and tricks done to make someone think that an inanimate object is moving, while it is really not.\u00a0 Such a person is shown the object in a way that changes his perception of its reality, and so he really believes it is like that (moving).\u00a0 An example of this would be<!--more--> what the magicians did in the presence of Moosaa (Moses, peace be upon him) and Fir&#8217;own (Pharoah, may Allaah curse him).\u00a0 They threw their ropes and sticks, and the people were made to believe that they were moving about, while they were really still and not moving at all.\u00a0 This (illusion) had no reality to it, rather it was merely trickery and deception.\u00a0 The ropes and sticks did not actually change states, even while the people perceived them as snakes slithering about!<\/p>\n<p>Allaah, the Most High, has said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u064a\u062e\u064a\u0644 \u0625\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0645\u0646 \u0633\u062d\u0631\u0647\u0645 \u0623\u0646\u0647\u0627 \u062a\u0633\u0639\u0649<br \/>\n( It was made to seem from their magic that they were moving ) <\/strong>[20:66]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u0633\u062d\u0631\u0648\u0627 \u0623\u0639\u064a\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0627\u0633 \u0648\u0627\u0633\u062a\u0631\u0647\u0628\u0648\u0647\u0645<br \/>\n( They put magic on the people&#8217;s eyes and sought to frighten them )<\/strong> [7:116]<\/p>\n<p><strong>This type of magic is <em>haraam<\/em> (impermissible)<\/strong>, due to the trickery, deception, and playing with people&#8217;s minds involved in it.\u00a0 It could even be taken as a profession as a magician earns a living from it, conning the people out of their money with falsehood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is from the kinds of major <em>kufr<\/em> (apostasy), <\/strong>and it was the magic of Pharoah&#8217;s magicians.<\/p>\n<p>Magic also refers to those who seek nearness to Jinn and ask for their help in benefitting or harming people&#8230; [The Committee then goes on to discuss another kind of magic,<em> sihr haqeeqee<\/em>, which involves the use of Jinn.]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:<\/strong> The Permanent Council&#8217;s Official <em>Fatwaa<\/em> Collection (1\/545) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alifta.org.sa\/Fatawa\/FatawaChapters.aspx?View=Page&amp;PageID=293&amp;PageNo=1&amp;BookID=3\" target=\"_blank\">[Click here for the Arabic source.]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>TEST YOUR UNDERSTANDING:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apply the understanding you have gained from the words of<strong> the Permanent Committee of Scholars<\/strong> above to the actions of some of the charlatans of (so-called) Islamic <em>da&#8217;wah<\/em> today.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Muhammad Shareef&#8217;s <strong>Almaghrib Institute<\/strong> has produced an official video trailer used to promote one of their short courses.
