In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful…<\/em><\/p>\n

Since the latecomer to the congregational prayer does not count the rak’ah<\/em> unless he has joined during the rukoo’<\/em>, some people believe that if they come after the rukoo’<\/em> there is no point in joining the prayer until the imaam<\/em> stands back up for the next rak’ah<\/em>, even if it means standing there looking around for a long time while the congregation makes tashah-hud<\/em>!<\/p>\n

Here’s why this is forbidden from a four-fold textual standpoint:<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> The generality of the hadeeth which is found in al-Bukhaaree and Muslim:<\/p>\n

\u0625\u0646\u0645\u0627 \u062c\u064f\u0639\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0625\u0645\u0627\u0645 \u0644\u064a\u0624\u062a\u0645\u0651 \u0628\u0647<\/span><\/strong>
\n“The imaam<\/em> has only been appointed to be followed…”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

2)<\/strong> And in one wording in al-Bukhaaree (722):<\/p>\n

\u0641\u0644\u0627 \u062a\u062e\u062a\u0644\u0641\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647
\n<\/span>“…So do not contradict him…”<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The one who stands there waiting for the imaam<\/em> to stand has not followed the imaam<\/em>, in fact he has contradicted him!<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> In the same hadeeth:<\/p>\n

\u0641\u0625\u0630\u0627 \u0643\u0628\u0651\u0631 \u0641\u0643\u0628\u0651\u0631\u0648\u0627<\/span><\/strong>
\n“…So if he makes takbeer<\/em> (says: “Allaahu akbar”), then make takbeer<\/em>…”<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The one who stands there waiting for the imaam to rise has not made the takbeers that go with each movement, and thus has violated this order.<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong> The clearest hadeeth in the issue: (if you were saying, “Well, that’s not clear enough for me…”)<\/em><\/p>\n

\n“If you have come to the prayer and we are prostrating, then prostrate, but do not count it (as a rak’ah<\/em>), and whoever catches the rak’ah<\/em> has caught the prayer.”<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This hadeeth was collected by Aboo Daawood in his Sunan<\/em> (893) from the narration of Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him).\u00a0\u00a0Al-Albaanee graded it hasan <\/em>(a sound hadeeth).<\/p>\n

I don’t think the last narration leaves any room for confusion, does it?\u00a0\u00a0May Allaah grant us success in following the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam<\/em>) in all our words and deeds, secret and open.\u00a0\u00a0And Allaah knows best.<\/p>\n
