{"id":1630,"date":"2011-09-21T04:35:03","date_gmt":"2011-09-21T04:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bakkah.net:\/en\/?p=1630"},"modified":"2011-09-21T09:11:58","modified_gmt":"2011-09-21T09:11:58","slug":"prayer-interrupted-iqaamah-masjid-sadee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bakkah.net\/en\/prayer-interrupted-iqaamah-masjid-sadee.htm","title":{"rendered":"Regarding Prayer Interrupted by the Iqaamah in the Masjid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Biography: Shaykh \u2018Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as-Sa\u2019dee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bakkah.net:\/en\/biography-shaykh-abdur-rahmaan-naasir-as-sadee.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Shaykh &#8216;Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as-Sa&#8217;dee<\/a><\/strong> (d.1376), may Allaah have Mercy on him, was asked about the proper application of the authentic hadeeth that means,<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong> &#8220;Once the prayer is established there is no prayer other than the\u00a0obligatory one.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>He replied:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The scholars have mentioned that it is applied to\u00a0initiating a new optional prayer (that has not been started yet) by someone intending to pray with the <em>imaam<\/em>, that it is\u00a0not allowed\u00a0in this case.\u00a0 However, they excluded someone finishing a prayer (already started before the <em>iqaamah<\/em> was called) from this ruling, to combine between it (this hadeeth) and the Statement of Allaah:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>\u0648\u0644\u0627 \u062a\u0628\u0637\u0644\u0648\u0627 \u0623\u0639\u0645\u0627\u0644\u0643\u0645<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>&#8220;And do not render your deeds invalid.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span>[<em>Soorah Muhammad<\/em>:33]<\/p>\n<p>There is a difference between initiating (a new prayer) and finishing (a prayer already started), the latter having an easier ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Know that there are four or five situations related to this issue (involving people when they hear the <em>iqaamah<\/em>):<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> If the <em>iqaamah<\/em> is called while someone has not started praying an optional prayer, <strong>he must\u00a0not pray an optional prayer<\/strong> in this case.\u00a0 This is the clearest\u00a0violation of the hadeeth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> If the <em>iqaamah<\/em> is called while\u00a0someone has already initiated an optional prayer, and finishing the optional prayer would\u00a0cause\u00a0him to miss\u00a0the\u00a0congregational prayer, or a <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em> of it according to the better of the two positions of the scholars,\u00a0such a person is <strong>absolutely required to\u00a0discontinue his optional prayer<\/strong>, since there is no (acceptable) clash between an obligation and a recommendation.\u00a0 And the generality of the obligation of the congregational prayer includes this scenario as well.\u00a0 Having started an optional prayer does not excuse a person from\u00a0the obligation (of joining the congregational prayer).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> If\u00a0(the <em>iqaamah<\/em> is called while) someone is praying, and he\u00a0can\u00a0finish\u00a0his prayer\u00a0(all the way) to the <em>salaams<\/em>,\u00a0it is best that he finishes the prayer.\u00a0 This is the clearest scenario that\u00a0is referred to in the words of\u00a0our fellow\u00a0(Hanbalee) scholars who said, <em>&#8220;If he has already begun it,\u00a0he\u00a0finishes it\u00a0concisely.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> If (the <em>iqaamah<\/em> is called while) someone is praying, and he is not sure if he can finish it in time to catch the first <em>rak&#8217;ah\u00a0<\/em>or not, the generality of the statements of the (Hanbalee) scholars indicates that it is better to complete it concisely, even if he actually misses the <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em>.\u00a0 Some others in the (Hanbalee) school of <em>Fiqh<\/em> have said that it is better to discontinue in this case, and this is what I believe to be correct, due to the generality of the hadeeth and the permissibility of discontinuing an optional deed.\u00a0 Furthermore, obligations and their benefits are not comparable to optional deeds.\u00a0 A single\u00a0obligation is better than\u00a0many \u00a0optional deeds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And If this is the case regarding just one <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em> (of obligatory prayer being missed), then missing more would be even more important\u00a0to avoid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:<\/strong> <em>Al-Fataawee as-Sa&#8217;diyyah<\/em> (pp.168-169)<\/p>\n<p><em>Translated by: Moosaa\u00a0Richardson<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful&#8230;
