[ In the Name of Allaah, the All-Merciful, may His Salaah <\/em>and Salaam<\/em> be upon His final Messenger, and upon all his family members and companions, to proceed… ]<\/span><\/p>\n

What exactly is this towheed<\/em> that is so important, that which holds such a high position?<\/span><\/p>\n

Liguistically, the word towheed<\/em> comes from the word wah-hada<\/em>, which means to make something waahid<\/em> (singular). Waahid<\/em> is the opposite of two, three, etc., the opposite of plurality. So waahid<\/em> is something that will continue to be singular and never become a partner of something else.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the Sharee’ah’s<\/em> definition, the towheed<\/em> means to single out Allaah with all forms of worship, so that you make all of your worship for Allaah alone. Allaah says [1]:<\/span><\/p>\n

( \u2026and the religion will be entirely for Allaah )<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The word religion<\/em> in this verse means worship<\/em>, as Allaah says [2]:<\/span><\/p>\n

( and I have not created the Jinn<\/em> nor Mankind except to worship Me )<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And Allaah says [3]:<\/span><\/p>\n

( and worship Allaah, and do not ascribe a single partner to Him )<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Allaah also says [4]:<\/span><\/p>\n

( So call on Allaah, making the religion entirely for Him, even if the disbelievers detest it )<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This is the meaning of towheed<\/em> – to single out Allaah in all acts of worship and to abandon the worship of anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n
