QUESTION
We
read from Shaykh Naasir's book, Tamaam
Al-Minnah, that the reports about the Prophet (sallallaahu
'alayhe wa sallam) making takbeer (saying "Allaahu
Akbar") when making sajdah upon reading a verse
of prostration when praying are not authentic. So are there
any grounds for us to make takbeer for this sajdah
during the prayer? Or is it an innovation to do so?
ANSWER
by Shaykh Wasee Allaah 'Abbaas, lecturer at the Ka'bah, instructor
at Umm Al-Quraa University in Makkah
There
is no takbeer when making sajdah upon reading
a verse of prostration outside of the prayer. As for during
the prayer, then it would be permissible based on the hadeeth
that describes
the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) making takbeer
with every act of lowering and raising himself.
[*]
This
can be applied here since, in making sajdah for a verse
of prostration, there exists the action of lowering and raising
oneself.

Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) used to lead
the people in prayer, making takbeer whenever he lowered
or raised himself, and he would say after the prayer, "I
am the one who prays most like Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu
'alayhe wa sallam) from all of you." It was collected
by Al-Bukhaaree (785) and Muslim (865).
