QUESTION
Did
the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) really sit
on the first step of the mimbar only? It was said to
us that he sat on the first step and did not ascend to the top
of the mimbar for the Friday khutbah, then 'Uthmaan
did it (ascended to the third step) in his lifetime, then the
person said it was in Fathul-Baaree like that!
ANSWER
by Shaykh Wasee Allaah 'Abbaas, lecturer at the Ka'bah, instructor
at Umm Al-Quraa University in Makkah
The
narration mentioning that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe
wa sallam) did not ascend to the third step of the mimbar,
and that 'Uthmaan did that is only taarikhiyyah (something
found in history books) and thus it has no proof in it. People
use it intending to find fault with 'Uthmaan (may Allaah be
pleased with him).
