Does trying to pass wind (gas) nullify one's wudhoo' if nothing actually comes out?

 

ANSWER by Shaykh Muhammad 'Umar Baazmool, professor of higher studies at Umm Al-Quraa University in Makkah

Whoever is in a state of wudhoo' and tries to pass wind (gas) from his anus, but nothing comes out, then his wudhoo' has not been nullified. This is so since that, by itself, is not something that nullifies wudhoo', nor is it called a hadath (something that nullifies wudhoo' like intercourse or urination), and Allaah knows best.
