Once they replace our scholars, where will they take us?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful…

Yasir Qadhi, self-proclaimed scholar and Dean of Academic Affairs at Almaghrib Institute, has recently become even more active in requesting the general Muslims to keep away from the scholars of Islaam, and to rely completely on Westernized and apologetic preachers like himself and those connected to his Almaghrib Institute, those currently being set up as replacements for the actual scholars of Islaam.

In a recent speech about “modernity” in December of 2013, Yasir Qadhi tells stories of the “stupidity” of the scholars of Islaam throughout history, and how their rigidity and lack of connection to the people has always kept Islaam and the Muslims from progress.

After laying down the foundations for the scholars to be viewed as a bunch of clowns to be laughed at, he introduces a shining brand of “scholars” who are forward-thinking and actively connected to the people. Who are they? They are the deviant political activists of the Muslim lands, those the scholars of Islaam have warned against time and time again, the likes of Hassan al-Bannaa, founder of the al-Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon Sect, and Saudi activist Salman al-‘Owdah, whom Yasir praises highly as a “forward-thinking realistic scholar”. Also fanatically promoted is Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, in the words of Yasir Qadhi:

  • One of our main reference points
  • A towering intellectual genius [!]
  • Somebody who understands the Sharee’ah and its applicability in modern times
  • An ‘aalim (scholar) with unrivaled scholarship [!]

The reader would do well to learn what one of the most outstanding critics of our time, Shaykh Muqbil al-Waadi’ee (may Allaah have Mercy on him), said about the reality of this inflated Ikhwani figurehead. [Click here]

The clearest goal of the lecture can be found in Yasir Qadhi’s explicit advice for the Muslims, already admittedly disconnected from the scholars, to not refer to scholars overseas, but rather to rely on “local scholars” who understand our lives and our societies! He says:

…You cannot get a fatwaa about living in a secular democracy from somebody who has never lived in a secular democracy. You cannot get a fatwaa about how to interact with your homosexual neighbor when a person has never met a homosexual in his life…

Source: His December 7, 2013 lecture in Detroit entitled “Looking Back as We Look Forward” (at about 52 minutes into the recording).

If you are paying attention to what Yasir Qadhi is saying here, and Allaah has blessed your intellect with balance and understanding, you should be able to see his goal becoming very clear – Replacing the DISTANT scholars of Islaam with his LOCAL team of brazen forward-thinking Almaghrib Institute instructors.

EXPOSED: Attempts to Disqualify the Most Qualified Scholars on Earth

Our senior-most scholars, those we return to for the most important matters of how to apply our Religion in our lives, do not live in secular democracies, and that is a reality. Yasir Qadhi seems to think he actually possesses the authority to disqualify and dismiss the senior, most needed scholars of Islaam, right out of the lives of the Western Muslims, based on his own personal baseless rhetoric.

This misguided claim that we “CANNOT” get a fatwaa from someone who does not live with us stands in stark opposition to the understanding of the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) and his Companions. The Prophet sent Mu’aath ibn Jabal to Yemen and instructed him on how to deal with the people of Yemen, without ever having lived there. He sent important messages addressing the kings and authorities of different lands, without having lived in their lands. He even gave verdicts about homosexuals, and I wonder if Yasir would like to try to prove that the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) met and interacted with an open homosexual!

We could agree that if two equally qualified scholars spoke on an issue relevant to a certain land or culture, then we would give precedence to the one who knows more about that land or culture. But what is the relationship between this understandable distinction and replacing the scholars of Islam with a group of TV personalities, entertainers, storytellers, self-proclaimed scholars, and magicians?!

The “Fiqh al-Waaqi'” Scam Revived

In reality, this is just another modern rehashing of the Qutbi fanaticism (ghuluw) regarding “Fiqh al-Waaqi'” (the Fiqh of current affairs). Over the last few decades, it has been a tool by which aspiring political activists would gain popularity with the people, speaking about matters that are in today’s newspapers and TV news reports. While the real scholars of Islaam were taking careful steps to verify and investigate news reports before speaking, the opportunistic political activists (the likes of Salman al-‘Owdah, one of Yasir’s “forward-thinking” shaykhs) would use that period of time to blame the senior scholars for neglecting the needs of the people, and claim they were forced to speak since the scholars were silent, leaving the people in the dark, as they would twist it.

Honest everyday people were tricked into thinking their scholars were not concerned with the current state of the Ummah, and the only ones who really care are those who (recklessly) speak about today’s headlines!

The Reality of the “Don’t Outsource” Plea

After attempting to disqualify the scholars of Islaam from their rightful ranks, Yasir Qadhi then encourages the local Detroit audience to refer to the many scholars available in Detroit [?], instead of “outsourcing” their fatwaas to scholars outside of the country (who he believes are unqualified to speak about our issues)! This discouragement of “outsourcing fatwaas” is a clever new twist to the old “Fiqh al-Waaqi'” scam, a new face to the old scheme to replace the scholars of Islaam.

This is the culmination of the “action plan” in his concluding summary, that Muslims should not refer to the scholars outside of their country, but rather get their fatwaas from “local scholars”, basically cementing the modernist re-invention of the word “scholar” to include anyone who speaks on behalf of Islaam and can produce some kind of certificate from a collegiate program of study (i.e. Almaghrib Institute instructors).

Students of knowledge in the West have warned the Muslims for years that Yasir Qadhi and his associates seek to pinch the Muslims off from their scholars. The accuracy of those warnings has now become abundantly clear to all who wish to be balanced, and we hope that our brothers and sisters will take heed.

The Modernists’ Plot to Replace the Scholars of Islaam

It seems to be that preachers in the West gain an audience and become popular, and then instead of helping their followers get connected to the scholars of Islam and thus – true knowledge, they enjoy becoming the reference point themselves, and basically attempt to take the place of the scholars. And it happens on different levels, beginning among their followers, in their circles.

In the lecture, Yasir Qadhi emphasizes the fact that today’s common Muslims are not well-connected to their scholars. While this is true, and it is a serious problem, his expressions of this concept are cleverly worded to place blame on the scholars specifically, not the common people or the students who should be bridging that gap! He blames the scholars themselves for not being connected to the everyday Muslims, and then proceeds to foster this disconnection and cement it, instead of repairing it and advising the Muslims to return to their scholars, which would be quite easy for an articulate student of knowledge who truly wants to help the Muslims improve their condition.

With the real scholars out of the picture, it is just as the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) predicted, they give fatwaas based upon ignorance, whilst they are misguided themselves, leading others into misguidance.

اتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ رُؤوسًا جُهَّالًا، فَسُئِلُوا فَأَفْتَوْا بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ، فَضَلُّوا وَأَضَلُّوا

“…The people would take ignorant people as their (religious) leaders, and they would be asked and respond with fatwaas without knowledge, going astray themselves, leading others astray.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

How else did the magic of Pharaoh’s magicians become perfectly permissible, or even a recommended tool for giving da’wah!? [clarified here]

How else did Marijuana become permissible for medical purposes!? [clarified here]

How else did the majority of the Muslims (even when they are misguided) become the yardstick by which to judge others’ guidance!? [clarified here]

How else did the Ja’fari math-hab of the Iranian Raafidhah Cult become a perfectly legitimate math-hab? [clarified here]

We ask Allaah to cause our brothers and sisters to wake up to these plots, and to open their eyes to the games of these unworthy and incapable “replacements” for the scholars of Islaam.

NEW: Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan exposes the reality of this plot here.

Beware of Almaghrib Institute and its Instructors

As Yasir Qadhi is “the man behind the curriculum” at Almaghrib Institute, as they openly declare (see this), it is from our of love for the Muslims and their guidance that we beseech them to be on guard against the plots of this group and more specifically its card-carrying members.

The following is a list of official Almaghrib instructors taken directly from their institute’s website:

  • Muhammad Alshareef
  • Waleed Basyouni
  • Yaser Birjas
  • Yasir Qadhi
  • Abu Eesa Niamatullah
  • Abdullah Hakim Quick
  • Omar Suleiman
  • Kamal El Mekki
  • Reda Bedeir
  • Riad Ouarzazi
  • Saad Tasleem
  • Abdulbary Yahya
  • Ahsan Hanif
  • Navaid Aziz
  • Said Rageah
  • Mohammed Faqih
  • Yasmin Mogahed
  • Abdul Nasir Jangda

All of the above instructors willingly work under the Almaghrib Institute curriculum designed and/or supervised by Yasir Qadhi. The speech of Yasir Qadhi quoted above was given under the Almaghrib banner (literally), and it should be understood that one of their primary leaders, the man behind the curriculum in fact, is outlining the direction of the institute.

The above named instructors are invited to fear Allaah and openly free themselves from this modernist organization and its plot to turn the Muslims away from their scholars and replace them with funny, “forward-thinking” entertainers who will be so “connected” to the people.

Please advise your friends and loved ones to be warned of them, and to never turn away from the real scholars of Islaam under any pretense.

And Allaah knows best.

  1. As Salaamu Alaikum Jazakum Allaah Khayran wa BaarakAllaah Feekum
The only thing that can rectify us is to return back to what the prophet of Allaah alayhi wa salaatu wa sallam was upon. Every bidah is astray n every astraying is in the fire.

  2. Jazakallaahu khayraan ustaadh for this real eye opener,
I am always confused about hasan al banna, are there two hasan al banna or one some claim that he is from ahlul bidah and others that he ascribe to as salafiyyah?
    kindly throw some light

    • Hasan ibn ‘Abdil-Wahhaab ibn Marzooq al-Bannaa (may Allaah preserve him), Salafee scholar of Egypt [biography], brother of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdil-Wahhaab al-Bannaa (may Allaah have Mercy on him) [biography].

He also says His Most Swift in holding those to account and remember His The Most Merciful and He says The Most Severe in Punishment oh you whom take this religion as mockery fear Allah as He perfected and place the rightly guided ulamah to assitas in our wordly affear not those whom has no evidence or can not produce evidence they have aquired any knowledge to place themselves in this position. May Allah guide us and keep us away from those ignorant troublesome people. 5. Asalamualaikum wa’rakmatula wa’rabarakatu.” … Allah showed His Mercy on us by providing us with these noble Scholars to help and guide us to the straight path. It’s ridiculous to say that one should look for others schlors because our scholars are far away from us. Because that is like someone saying go to the crappy school in your neighbor because all the good schools are far away. If u want a good education, you make the scarifice of traveling really far or even leaving your home country to get that education. Therefore, one should put even more effort in regards to their deen and making sure they receive the right guidance. Even if that means traveling really far or even leaving your homeland. Because in the end, isn’t your deen and making sure you meet your Lord on the correct deen, what really matters?… [comment abridged by admin]

  6. As Salaamu Alikum, Please reflect on the following verse of the Quran. “O you who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger and those of you who are in authority. If you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. A believer will refer things to Allah & His messenger. As regards your question “Once they replace our scholars, where will they take us”? The same tone and language is being enlightened by deviant Muslim sects. Allah has given us this freedom that it is not obligatory to blindly follow the Scholars.
    Jazak Allah

    • Wa ‘alaykas-salaamu. This is one of the effects of the Almaghrib scheme – that any connection to the scholars must mean “blindly following” them. As a result, people actually believe that removing the scholars from their lives is supported in the Quran! Yes indeed, we refer back to Allaah and His Messenger (whom we send salaat and salaam upon when he is mentioned) – may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace. But without the scholars? Akhee – may Allaah give you better – do not take one Verse and ignore other Verses! Allaah has made returning back to the scholars an obligation:

“And ask the people of knowledge when you do not know.” [Meaning of 16:43]

“Had they only referred it back to the Messenger and back to those in authority among them, so that those of them who know how to extract it (the ruling) would have known it…” [Meaning of 4:83]

And Allaah has even made it an obligation to OBEY the scholars in many matters, saying [what means]: “O you who believe! Obey Allaah, and obey the Messenger, and (also obey) all those in authority [the scholars and the rulers] amongst you…” [the first part of the Verse YOU quoted: 4:59].

      أفتؤمنون ببعض الكتاب وتكفرون ببعض
“Do you believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in other parts?”
      [2:85]

May Allaah give you better, you have quoted a Verse which commands you to obey the scholars, thinking it frees you from any obligation to follow them! You are confused in your Religion, and obviously incapable of deriving the intended rulings from the Quran yourself. In essence, you have given us a very clear example of exactly why we need our scholars, perhaps more effectively than my original article attempts to do, and for that we thank you.

And tanaazulan (for the sake of argument), if there is no need for the scholars (in your mind), then there would be no need for the fake ones at Almaghrib either, and no need for people to fork over large amounts of cash for their seminars!

    • Oh tall white man, may Allah increase you in understanding. Now you are interpreting a verse to suit your desires? How evil is the affair! That ayah is not about obeying scholars but about obeying leaders in authority. Refer to tafseer made regarding that ayah… (comment abridged by admin)

    • Tafseer at-Tabaree: Imaam Muhammad ibn Jareer at-Tabaree mentions a number of opinions about the Verse, that the people of authority in the Verse are: (1) the Muslim rulers, (2) the scholars, (3) the Companions in general, (4) and Aboo Bakr and ‘Umar specifically. He mentions which scholars expressed which opinions. In that discussion, he brings a number of chains to Ibn ‘Abbaas, Mujaahid, ‘Ataa’, al-Hasan al-Basree, and others saying that “the people in authority among you” (referred to in the Verse) are the scholars. He ends by preferring the first position: the Muslim rulers.

Tafseer Ibn Katheer: Imaam Ibn Katheer mentions that some scholars understood the people of authority to be the rulers, while others understood them to be the scholars. He concludes:

What seems apparent -and Allaah knows best- is that the Verse refers to all authorities, both the rulers and the scholars, as has preceded. Allaah has said [what means]: “Why do the firmly-grounded scholars and priests not forbid them from their sinful statements and their devouring of evil things (immoral transactions, oppressive earnings).” [5:62] And Allaah has said [what means]: “Then ask the people of knowledge when you do not know.” [16:43] And in the authentic hadeeth which is agreed upon, from the narration of Aboo Hurayrah, who related that the Messenger of Allaah -may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace- said [what means]: “Whoever obeys me has obeyed Allaah, and whoever disobeys me has disobeyed Allaah. Whoever obeys my ameer (appointed leader) has obeyed me, and whoever disobeys my ameer has disobeyed me.” These are orders to obey the scholars and the rulers.

These are two of the most important staple books of Tafseer. Of course, this same discussion can be found in the many other books of Tafseer as well.

    • Asalamu Aleykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaat brother Moosaa, May Allaah the Most High reward you abundantly for your beautiful response.

To the one adressing our elder [Moosaa] in such a low manner (oh tall white man): Fear Allaah! Subhanaa’Allaah where’s your adaab?

  7. BarakALLAAHUfeek.these people often weaken our relations to ahlul ilm, claiming or behaving themselves as the truly caring ‘scholars’.keep explaining and exposing these affairs of these du’aat.may Allaah help you.

  8. Ibn Barjas (rahimahullaah):

“O student! If you want knowledge from its sources then you should stick to the great scholars [Kibâr-ul-‘ulama]: those who have gray beards & weak bodies & have lost their power in [pursuit of] knowledge & educating. Stick to them before they disappear & take from their treasure before they take it with them. One misses the full-moon in the dark night.”

    (al-‘Awa’iq, p. 26)

  9. Salamun alaik bro Moosa,

The piece of the puzzle that I am missing is that before his incarceration, Salman al-Awdah is considered to harvest and propagate ikhwani/revolutionary ideals. But after his release he becomes a staunch supporter of the government and ruling family(ies). So what do the scholars say of him now? Do they still hold him in the same view as before? It seems there is more to this than meets the eye.

    Your thoughts?

  10. Tawfeeq is indeed from Allah. You would think after reading all this a person would be able to realize and actualize the truth but subhanaAllah they keep on insisting to follow their desires and the footsteps of shaytan. May Allah protect us from ever supporting falsehood and from ever seeing falsehood as truth and the truth as falsehood. Akhi Moosa May Allah reward you immensely And grant us all tawfeeq.

  11. For years Yasir Qadhi and Al-Maghrib have been using cartoons of “Halal Man” and “Zabiha Man” flying in the sky, talking about FIQH, to sell tickets to one of Yasir’s seminars! http://safeshare.tv/w/XFokhqItVF (Admin: YouTube link replaced by SafeShare link)

  12. Salaam alaikoum, could you, time permitting, give some insight to the origin of the ayat, “And ask the people of knowledge when you do not know.” [Meaning of 16:43] being used as Muslim scholars? The tafsir of Ibn Kathir explains this to mean the people of the book that came before… Jazakallah khair…

    • Wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah, Yahya, may Allaah bless you for your question. If you scroll up in the comments above, to my reply dated January 14, 2014, you will see how Imaam Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have Mercy on him) used the same Verse to show the obligation of returning to and obeying the scholars!

What you said about the Verse being revealed about the people of the earlier scriptures is also true. However, reading a book of Tafseer without some basic principles could prove harmful, as you may reach conclusions that were not intended. Al-hamdulillaah for your question here today, and for what Allaah has opened up for us in understanding of His Book! When a scholar tries to single out the exact reason for a Verse’s revelation, like in this case, it does not mean that the Verse is restricted to those whom it was revealed about exclusively, or that the scholar was trying to restrict its meaning to that.

There is a principle in Tafseer the scholars work by – that the specific reason for a Verse’s revelation, or the specific event or people it was revealed about, does not restrict its meaning, rather it is to be understood to be as general as the wording would allow.

An easy example of this would be: Verese 5-7 of Soorah al-Layl, which mean, “As for the one who gives and has taqwaa, whilst he believes in the recompense, then We shall grant him ease in following after al-Yusraa (the easy path to goodness).” These Verese were understood to be revealed about Aboo Bakr as-Siddeeq specifically. However, to restrict them to him alone would be baseless, since the wording includes him and everyone who behaves as he did.

Another example of this principle would be the Verse in Soorah al-Anfaal (8:27) which was revealed regarding Haatib ibn Abee Balta’ah (may Allaah be pleased with him). Ibn Katheer identifies the specific event it was revealed about, and then goes on to say: والصحيح أن الآية عامة، وإن صح أنها وردت على سبب خاص، فالأخذ بعموم اللفظ لا بخصوص السبب عند الجماهير من العلماء (“What is correct is that the Verse is generally worded, and even if it has been authentically narrated that it has a specific reason of revelation, since the generality of the wording is taken over restricting it to its reason (for revelation), according the vast majority of scholars.”)

To summarize, the Quran is the Speech of Allaah, miraculous in its meanings. To think that a Verse revealed about a specific event does not apply to anything other the original event itself would lead to the nullification of many, many intended applications of the Quran in our lives. And Allaah knows best.

  13. Alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen, baraka Allah feekum, for me its clear may Allah give you the tawfeek to keep informing His Ummah of these people of deviation.

  14. Barakallafeekum Ya Akhee Moosa for opening the eyes of people.

So many youth are getting into the deceitful programs of AlMaghrib.
I met once of youth who lives in Canada in Toronto and he told me that anywhere would read anything in name of Islam so they need some books.

    So innoscent!

May Allah reward you and please provide more proofs from scholars i think already a refutation of him from Sk Muhammad bin Haadi hafeezhullah is available.

  15. Asalaamu alaikum ya Moosaa,

Firstly, I ask Allah to reward you immensely for all your time and effort clarifying the truth, especially for us ignorant folk here in the west. Jazaak Allahu khaira!

My question is: Those who try to utilize Yasir Qadhi’s notion that overseas scholars are not fit to deal with “our issues” often cite the passage of Ibn al-Qayyum (rahimahullah) that is shown below. How do we understand this statement of Ibn al-Qayyum?

From Ibn al-Qayyum’s “I`lam al Muwaqi`in” (supposedly, I have no idea how to confirm this):

“This is pure understanding of the law. Whoever issues Fatawa to the people merely on the basis of what is transmitted in the texts despite differences in their customs, usages, times, places, conditions, and the special circumstances of their situations has gone astray and leads others astray. His crime against the religion is greater than the crime of a physician who gives people medical prescriptions without regard to the differences of their climes, norms, the times they live in, and their physical natures but merely in accord with what he finds written down in some medical book about people with similar anatomies. He is an ignorant physician, but the other is an ignorant Faqih but much more detrimental.”

    Baarak Allahu feek.

    • wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. No one can contend that the ruling on a specific thing depends on understanding its reality, often within the dynamics of the culture of that time and place. Yasir Qadhi makes serious GHULUW of this principle, by claiming that someone who does not live in a secular democracy cannot give verdicts to those who live there. This essentially means that the scholars of Islaam have all been excused and dismissed, and you are to rely on Yasir Qadhi and friends for your fatwaas from now on. What an EVIL substitute for Islaam’s scholars, and what an EVIL manhaj.

“Whoever issues Fatawa to the people merely on the basis of what is transmitted in the texts despite differences in their customs, usages, times, places, conditions, and the special circumstances of their situations has gone astray and leads others astray…”

FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS TO DETOXIFY THE MUSLIMS FROM THE POISONOUS ALMAGHRIB KOOL-AID:
      1. Do the recognized scholars of Islaam today issue fatwas based solely on what is in books, giving no consideration to customs, conditions, and circumstances? [Yes, no, sometimes…?]
      2. As a result, are they astray, leading others astray?
      3. Will you apply this passage from Ibn al-Qayyim to the best of our modern scholars, like Al-Albaanee, Ibn Baaz, Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, etc…? And those upon their way from the scholars who are alive?
      4. Will you say they are more harmful to the Muslims than fake medical doctors?

For those who have detoxified their bloodstream from the poison of Yasir Qadhi and Almaghrib, or they were never affected by it, it should be clear which party these descriptions apply to – the scholars of Islaam, or their propped up, unworthy American replacements!

By Allaah, the book of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have Mercy on him) is amazing, not to be abused by deviants. Let them read the passages about those stepping forward to give fatwaas whilst not being from its people! Let them read about Imaam Maalik and how he refrained from giving fatwaas until 70 of the scholars of Madeenah told him to do so! They twist one passage about improper fatwaas and try to apply it generally to all the senior scholars of Islaam, and disqualify them out of the lives of the Muslims, while forgetting that the entire book of Ibn al-Qayyim is one huge series of proofs against themselves!

  16. …Why don’t the salafi students of knowledge get together and work together and create an educational institute that will teach arabic and islamic studies (upon the salafi minhaj). This way there would be an alternative for the general muslims to seek authentic knowledge as well as know who the “real” students of knowledge and mashaikh are. And Allah knows best. [comment abridged by admin]

  17. Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
    Assalaamu alaikum.
My brother in islaam BaarakAllaahu feek wa JazaakaAllaahu khairan for this. Ive lived in canada during the establishment of al maghrib then through their deviation and SubhaanAllaah it pains me bc now they infiltrate my home country and neighbouring ones in their evil dawah. I have lost many sisters to their deviant manhaj and now I am their enemy and those of us calling them to the quran and sunnah and way of the salaf. My heart is broken indeed but truly Allaah guides whom He wills….Alhamdulillaah for duaat like urself and for our ulamaa and may Allaah preserve all of u and bless us with goodness… [comment abridged by admin]

  18. Assalaamu’alaikum bro Moosa Richardson,

Can you explain to us whether it is bid’a to celebrate [any country’s] National Day? [question adjusted by admin]

    • And if this was just an honest question, then the answer is quite clear I hope. If Almaghrib fans and/or admin asked you to pose the question thinking that we remain silent about innovation in our country, then that stupidity should be rubbed back in their faces after reading the link provided. No games, just Salafiyyah, pure Islaam.

    • Jazak Allah Khair brother. I had asked out of my own accord as sometime ago there was a clipping of an arab news paper circulating the internet and social media sites. The top half of the news paper was an article on the innovation of mawlid and the bottom half was about saudi national day. I remembered to ask you since you are there you would know the situation better. [comment abridged by admin]

  19. Assalamu Alaykom Akhi Moosa,

May Allah grant u reward in explaining the truth of those Americanized Muslims namely Estes and Qadhi. I wish to know why is Hassan Al- Banna is considered deviant. Jazakallahu Khair.

  20. Asalaamualaikum. JazaakAllahu khayran for this post. I think it was very much needed. I wish something similar could be posted regarding Bilal Phillips IOU and their teachers. I know of some people who claim to be upon Salafiyyah and they study at this online university because they think it is affordable and acessible education. I think many people are still not aware about Bilal Phillips. Baarik Allah Feek.

  21. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، السﻻم عليكم ورحمة الله أخي،

Alhamdulillah after Allaah guided me to salafiyyah I understood the mosguidance of people from al maghrib and the likes. My family isn’t upon salafiyyah and so when I try to explain why they should stay away from these sorts of people they think I’m being arrogant or something of that sort. They say things like “he still has more knowledge than you”. They have realky become engrained in these sorts of speakers. Please advise me and how I should approach my family regarding this issue, it really angers me when I have to attend such events with these speakers because I am in a position where I can’t just say no and not go.
    Baarak Allahu feek

    • وعليك السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

Try to introduce the books and audios of scholars of Islaam into the house. Try to be more resolute in refusing to attend Al-Maghrib events, while maintaining respect for your parents. Be patient and ask Allaah for assistance. May Allaah bless you in your struggle and guide your family to what is better. And Allaah knows best.

  22. Assalamu alaikum brother. JazakAllahu khair for this well written article. Alhamdulillah Allah guided me to salafiyyah and I know that scholars like ibn baz, uthaymeen, saleh al fawzaan (may Allah have mercy on all of them) are the big scholars of our times. But I can’t explain it to my husband. He is not aware of these scholars and therefore he doesn’t regard them as much. He calls yasir qadhi, abdul nasir jangdha etc. scholars and listens to their lectures regularly. He is totally brainwashed by their mentality. He thinks salafiyyah is a group like others and has got good and bad. he asks me to not associate with it… [message truncated by admin]

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. May Allaah protect you from what they have been afflicted with. This is one of the worst effects of the hizbiyyah that Almaghrib has been planting for the last 10 years. People who follow Almaghrib are introduced to every “fantastic, charismatic, sincere” teacher from their own line-up of teachers, entertainers, and storytellers. Not only do they fail to ever introduce their followers to any real scholars, but they plant seeds of hatred and disrespect, so that their followers will have no ambition whatsoever to ever try and seek a single scholar out. Truly pinching the Muslims off from their scholars and leading them into a controlled form of the most severe kind of repugnant isolationism. May Allaah guide your husband and rectify what is harming you in your Religion.

    • Ask him to read a real book on Islam from a real scholar with him. He can protect you from the “mistakes” by pointing them out, or maybe he might actually learn something about his Religion.

  23. Assalaamu ‘Alaikum Brother Moosaa Richardson,

Please shed some light on a matter I have confusion in:

What makes someone a scholar? People could say “I am referring to the scholars. I refer to Yasir Qadhi. He has a degree from the Islaamic University of Madeenah. So he’s a scholar.”

    Jazaakallaah Khair

    • Wa ‘alaykas-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. When we say “scholar” as in: “Return to the scholars for knowledge…” Then the meaning is not a degree holder. The meaning is the recognized people of sound knowledge of Islaam. Yasir Qadhi is a troubled young man who happens to hold degrees, yet his teachings are in contradiction to the scholars’ basic teachings and, sadly, quite detrimental to Muslims. May Allaah guide him and those who consider him a scholar.

  24. i want to be one of the students because i received a certificate of completing thanawi studies at al jaziira found ukerewe district mwanza tanzania i’m tanzanian citizen like becoming a social of islam

  25. Assalamu alaykum
Akhi please could you speak on current affairs such as this evil affair in France?
People need clarification about groups such as this daesh and Taliban etc and why they are wrong and against the Sunnh.

  26. Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

    This was eye-opening. Jazakallaahu Khairan.

I understand that you have a lot of commitments but it would it be really useful if you could to clarify the errors of the caller ‘Mufti Menk’. He has a HUGE following in the Indian Subcontinent. May Allah reward you immensely for your efforts and increse you in knowledge.

  27. Assalamualaykum warahmatullah.

The foolish argument of qadhi in which aalim of saudi arabia’s fatwaa cant be taken by people or relied by people in usa just cause he hasn’t lived in usa; then i say he will by this argument demolish the entire four madaahib and other than them, since imaam maalik fr eg., didnt put forth his fiqh and fahm after living in usa.
Nor did imam ahmad put forward his fiqh after living in russia.,
So based upon yasir qadhis argument even every fiqh and fahm of every imaam wont apply since “they have never lived in a secular democracy”

Rather when the current ulemaa of saudi living in current age and when a person knows everything whats happening in every part of the world in seconds by way of Internet, news and other technology, yet if yasir qadhi wont accept from them, then this implies his rejecting salaf even much more since neither they lived in west, nor they even lived in current times, rather 1300-1100 years back; and how can he take fatwaa of someone in 21st century who hasn’t lived in 21st century?!
    Subhan allah.

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Indeed, every time one reflects about the ramifications of Yasir Qadhi’s “adjustments” to Islamic Fiqh, disasters upon disasters become apparent! I’m still amazed at how audaciously he dismisses the scholars who don’t live in America from having their verdicts relied upon in America, yet he and his band of alMaghrib entertainers are free to travel internationally and speak on religious matters in foreign lands they do not live in, without his imposed “non-residential” status disqualifying them!

  28. Asalaamu Alaykum.

May Allaah Bless you with good!

What should we do? we have no scholars in England?
We have the Salafi Masaajid Around us such as:Maktabah Salafiyyah In Birmingham.
Masjid As-Sunnah In Cranford Markaz Muaadh .But we have no scholars they are all abroad.what do you advise us to do in England? [message slightly truncated by admin]

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. Be patient with those striving to learn upon the way of the Salaf. In shaa’ Allaah, it is hoped that by sticking to the places you have mentioned, you will stay safe from innovated beliefs and methodologies, you will increase in your love for the scholars of Islam, and, as a result, you will improve as a Muslim while you stay in the land of non-Muslims. May Allaah give you success.

    • Alhamdulillah, we have plenty of students of knowledge (the next best thing) here in England such as (but not limited to):
      Abu Khadeejah Abdul Wahid (Birmingham)
      Abu Hakeem Bilal Davis (Birmingham)
      Abu Iyaad Amjad Rafiq (Middlesbrough)
      Abu Humayd Saalim Ahmad (Bradford)
      Abu Idrees Muhammad Khan (Birmingham)
      Abu Muadh Taqweem Aslam (Manchester)
      Abu Tasneem Mushaf (Stoke-on-Trent)
      Abu Inaynah Seif (Sheffield)
      Abdulilah Lahmami (Slough)
      Abdul Hakeem Mitchell (Manchester)
      Shamsuddeen Bensafi (West London)
      Rayaan Barker (Stoke-on-Trent)
      Uways at-Taweel (East London)

    • May Allah bless the da’wah in the UK and these noble carriers of it. May He protect them and grant them success, dignity, and honor in this life and the next. May He forgive us and them and have Mercy on those who have passed.

  29. Assalāmuʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu

Ustaadh, as a layman from the Muslims, is it of benefit to me if i follow the world news or the news in my own non-Muslim country? Or is this just a sheer waste of time? Kindly advise..

  30. Assalaamu’alaykum..

Not too long ago, a brother asked me concerning someone called “Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee”. I barely know anything about him and since He is in the United States, I thought I should ask you. Is he from the students of knowledge known to our mashaaikh? I guess he is not active on the internet..

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. This is our elder at Masjid at-Tawheed in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Shaykh Rabee’ ibn Haadee and other scholars recommend him. May Allaah bless him and his efforts.

  31. Asalaamualaikum!

I would like you to include Taimiyyah Zubair as one of the instructors at Al-Maghrib. She is a new instructor at Al-Maghrib and this can be easily verified by looking at the list of instructors… This organization is also known for inviting guest speakers from al-Maghrib and various other deviant sects such as Jama’at at-Tableegh. [comment abridged by admin]

    JazakAllahu Khair

    • Wa ‘alayk as-salaamu wa rahmatullaah. What is BEYOND ridiculous is that their instructors (right now on their own website) are being promoted as “the best of the best of scholars in the western world”! How much exaggerated self-praise will they pour upon themselves in order to sell tickets!?

  32. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين أما بعد
All praise is for Allah, Lord of all that exists and may the prayers and peace be upon Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم
and upon his family and his companion, as to what proceeds:

This whole mess, regardless of my late response, which seems to have been revived by a young brother by the name of Mufti Muneer in these past few months, has reminded me of a verse from the Qur’an, where Allah, the Most High, Says:

    وَقَالَت طَّائِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَجْهَ النَّهَارِ وَاكْفُرُوا آخِرَهُ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
And a party of the people of the Scripture say: “Believe in the morning in that which is revealed to the believers (Muslims), and reject it at the end of the day, so that they may turn back. [3:72]

    And from Tafsir Ibn Katheer:

“This is a wicked plan from the People of the Book to deceive Muslims who are weak in the religion. They decided that they would pretend to be believers in the beginning of the day, by attending the dawn prayer with the Muslims. However, when the day ended, they would revert to their old religion so that the ignorant people would say, “They reverted to their old religion because they uncovered some shortcomings in the Islamic religion.” This is why they said next. so that they may turn back.) Ibn Abi Najih said that Mujahid commented about this Ayah, which refers to the Jews, “They attended the dawn prayer with the Prophet and disbelieved in the end of the day in order to misguide the people. This way, people would think that they have uncovered shortcomings in the religion that they briefly followed.”

They disconnect you from the people of sound knowledge, but, the people of Sound knowledge are ultimately, Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Sahabah رضى الله عنهم. Does this mean that they seek to ultimately disconnect you from Islam in total? It seems like a slowly cascading effect.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was not from the west, or from our time, so, will their speech, after this phase of disconnection from the people of knowledge after the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم be, “How can we take our religion from people not from our time, from a people who are not from us (ancient Arabs),” to, “How can we accept Islam as our religion? It doesn’t come from the West, it doesn’t address our needs, this is for the Arabs!” I say this because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the his sahabah رضى الله عنهم were the sources of knowledge for the subsequent generations of scholars. The Ulama always refer back to them and their understanding of this religion, so who are these people really trying to cut the ignorant Muslims away from?

What ever is correct from this is from Allah and what ever mistake in my understanding is from myself.

    – Abdushakur

    • “…The Ulama always refer back to them and their understanding of this religion, so who are these people really trying to cut the ignorant Muslims away from?”

Insightful, may Allaah bless you. And I think it is clear that you are reflecting over a Quranic Verse and its authentic tafseer, not applying takfeer to any Muslims, yet in this era and atmosphere, I fear people with disease in their hearts might say you are implying that So-and-So is basically a Jew or an apostate, or something like this. This is not found in your comment, yet people of desires, when confronted with a good point of reflection, commonly resort to all types of claims. May Allaah reward you for your beneficial comment.

  33. As salaamu ‘alaykum was Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh akhee Moosaa, May Allaah continue to bless your effort Allaahumma Aameen Yaa Rabbanaa.

I live in Texas and two of the main instructors of Almaghrib Institute are housed in Valley Ranch Masjid. They are known in that masjid as “the two scholars” (Yaser Birjas and Omar Suleiman). A few days ago, Tahir Wyatt (video is below) sat and gave a reminder in their masjid… [comment abridged by admin for clarity]

    • Briefly, Salafis teach you your Religion, employing the manners of the scholars. Al Maghrib is entertainment for profit, under the assumption that you are learning Islam at the same time. You would never see the scholars of Islam ripping phone books as feats of strength, dancing on chairs, “jannah-hugging”, or appointing “joke managers” for their classes.

    • In addition to this also carrying out magic tricks for the entertainment of the audience. Na’aoothubillah may Allaah aza wa jal protect us from this fitnah.
